The Department of Experimental Medicine seeks an academic employee for Cell Culture Services for the Transgenic Mouse Core Facility, at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. The position is for 1 year, starting September 15th 2024 or as soon as possible.

About us

The Transgenic Mouse Core Facility at the University of Copenhagen provides basic and advanced transgenic mouse services to scientists.

Job description

The duties will primarily consist of:

  • Derivation and maintenance of mouse embryonic stem cells (mESC)
  • Gene targeting and genome editing in mESC
  • Genome editing in established mouse and human cell lines
  • Implement protocols to induce pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)
  • Primary mouse embryonic fibroblast (MEF) preparation
  • Embryo culture and transfer
  • Advising and supporting users on projects involving cells culture
  • Secondarily, mouse work and embryo culture and manipulation
  • Close interaction and coordination with other members of the team
  • Management issues including reporting, handling of databases for benchmarking of services

The applicant could be required to occasionally perform weekend work.

Required qualifications

We are looking for a team-player candidate with strong background in cell culture techniques, understanding of genome-editing technologies, especially CRISPR/Cas9, proven experience in the different procedures involved in generating genetically modified mouse models and clear service-oriented mindset.

Essential experience and skills:

  • You should hold a master’s degree in biology, or similar
  • Extensive proven experience in culturing ESC and other cell lines, as well and in genetically modification in vitro
  • Must be good at working independently be self-motivated, and have exceptional organizational skills.

  • Have good communication skills in English; spoken and written

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Experience generating and culturing iPSC
  • Deep understanding of the CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing technology
  • Experience working with mouse embryos and genetically modified mouse models

Terms of salary and employment

The employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Government and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

Your salary level will be based on seniority, and a supplement may be negotiated.
