Join us as our new research scientist

As research scientist your responsibilities will be to support research associates (laboratory technicians) with their tasks, to plan, execute and conclude on various experiments in the laboratory yourself, to optimize our workflows and, importantly, to secure good knowledge-sharing and collaboration with stakeholders in projects and throughout the organization. Our workflows include standard assays such as nDSF for protein unfolding, measuring pI of proteins, small scale recovery tests, but also setting up new enzyme activity assays. In the team, we also focus on optimizing our processes using automation and digitalization. Thus, you can expect to use both liquid handlers in the wet-lab and scripts for handling data processing. Overall, the position contains a good mix of running standard/routine assays, optimizing processes, and communicating results to our internal customers. Depending on team targets, your competences, and interests, you can develop within all of the above subjects.

Welcome to department Prototyping in Protein Chemistry and Assays, R&D, Novonesis
In this position, you will together with 20 dedicated colleagues be part of department Prototyping with focus on producing, purifying, and characterizing enzyme/protein prototypes. In the department, we value and prioritize a good working atmosphere and high team spirit where we help each other and have fun. This position is a part of a team dedicated to characterization of enzyme prototypes but might extend to our other team focusing on protein production and purification in the future. By producing and characterizing enzyme prototypes, the teams enable fast progress of projects across different industries in Novonesis R&D.

The department is part of the functional area ‘Protein Chemistry and Assays’, and together we support all industries in Novonesis.

We offer:

  • Excellent development opportunities within protein chemistry, automation, and digitalization

  • A friendly, open-minded, and relaxed work environment with a great sense of humor

  • Focus on safety, well-being, and work-life balance

  • A diverse portfolio of tasks

  • A team-driven structure with focus on empowerment and collaboration

In this role, you’ll make an impact by:

  • Participating in daily screening activities and deliverables to projects

  • Developing and introducing new methods for characterization of proteins and troubleshooting on the molecular level, when manufacturability challenges occur during up-scale

  • Securing good collaboration and communication with our stakeholders and customers

  • Optimizing laboratory processes

  • Being a part of our digital journey (by using and possibly building scripts and digital tools)

  • Being an active member of a team, contributing to team development and task coordination

  • Enabling new discoveries and innovation by characterizing early enzyme prototypes for R&D projects

To succeed you must:

  • As a min. hold a MSc in protein chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology or related field of science and preferably a relevant PhD

  • Have a background in protein chemistry – especially enzymology and protein stability

  • Have experience with data handling, preferably automated via scripts in e.g. Python, R or JMP

  • Be interested in actively participating with work in the laboratories (expect 50% lab time)

  • Preferably, have experience with automated liquid handlers such as Tecan or Hamilton

  • Preferably, have experience with protein purification

  • Be a team player motivated by common goals and collaboration

  • Be comfortable in communicating with various stakeholders (incl. internal customers) in both Danish and English to ensure good collaboration and knowledge-sharing

Application deadline: July 28th 2024.
