The newly formed Axion Dark Matter and Astroparticle research group focuses on searches for dark matter in the form of axions and axion-like particles (ALPs) as well as the propagation of high-energy photons over cosmological distances. It is supported by a Starting Grant from the European Research Council. The group is part of CP3-Origins Centre which includes leading scientists from mathematics, particle physics, astrophysics, and cosmology at SDU.

High-energy gamma rays and charged cosmic rays produced in sources beyond our Milky Way could initiate electromagnetic cascades in intergalactic space. The gamma-ray signature of these cascades could reveal the strength of the otherwise poorly constrained intergalactic magnetic fields and constrain the acceleration efficiency of cosmic rays.

The successful candidate will join international research collaborations and search for cascade signatures by analysing data from state-of-the-art gamma-ray observatories such as the Fermi Large Area Telescope and Chere...
