Job Category:
Research & Innovation

Position type:
Permanent position.

Eriksholm Research Centre, part of Oticon, is seeking an experienced researcher to join our team. We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled candidate to carry out machine learning research into large language models / transformer-based architectures applied to hearing healthcare.

At Eriksholm we carry out open, peer-reviewed research, with the aim to keep Oticon at the forefront of academic trends and fuel innovation. The majority of Eriksholm’s research activities focus on understanding the impact of hearing loss and individual needs of hearing aid users. Eriksholm has recently added a new major research focus area in Artificial Intelligence, taking the insights generated from decades of research to focus on how technology can provide solutions for both hearing aid end-users and hearing care professionals. Being part of a large hearing healthcare company, Eriksholm offers the opportunity to bring research ideas closer to impact the lives of people with hearing loss.

Scientists at Eriksholm disseminate their findings at leading scientific conferences, in scientific journals and through their ongoing engagement with the international research community.

About the position

The future of personalization and delivery of quality service in hearing healthcare depends on efficient predictive technology, based on large amounts of available hearing health data and providing transparent human-interpretable decision processes.

We are looking for an experienced machine learning researcher to help unlock value from large sets of clinical hearing health data. You will work on projects to improve the personalisation of hearing aid treatment, to ensure end-users get the best possible benefit and support from their devices, and to support audiologists and clinicians to improve the efficiency of their practices, while maintaining quality of treatment and end-user satisfaction. You will conduct research into methods and technologies that up-front address the new legislative frameworks (e.g. EU AI Act) to govern the use and protection of personal data, the handling of dynamic consent (i.e. where informed consent is given or withdrawn over time), and the transparency and explainability of trained models in a healthcare setting.

Depending on experience level, you will be expected to help shape our strategy for computational audiology and help establish and (co-)supervise relevant PhD and postdoc projects. You will work closely with relevant universities, hospitals, and clinical partners. The working place will be split between Oticon headquarters & Eriksholm Research Centre, while some work may take place at partner sites.

The ideal candidate

  • You hold a PhD degree in machine learning, deep learning, large language models / transformer architectures, ideally with a focus on modelling health data.
  • Experience with explainable-AI (XAI) methods, federated learning, and/or machine un-learning methods would be a bonus.
  • You have a relevant research track record based on your experience, publishing in high-quality academic journals and conferences.
  • You have a strong interest in interdisciplinary and application-oriented research.
  • You have high proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Proficiency in the Danish language is not essential, but a willingness to learn could be useful in the longer-term.

Want to join the Eriksholm Research Centre?
If this opportunity appeals to you, then please submit your application as soon as possible but no later than June 14th.

Please include the following documents: Letter of motivation; CV including relevant courses and publications; copies of university diplomas and transcripts; and provide 2-3 references.

About living in Denmark

The Danish work environment is characterized by a flat organizational structure with a low power distance between managers and employees. The horizontal structure invites open dialogue between management and employees. Competence development is highly prioritized, and most workplaces regularly offer continuing education to their employees.

Most expats moving to Denmark describe the work-life balance as one of the great advantages of living in Denmark. A full-time position in Denmark covers 37 hours a week and a normal workday will be from 08:00-16:00. Danes focus equally on developing their working lives and private lives. Personal safety is high as well. Children walk/bike to school. The Danish way of life is based on mutual trust and tolerance. Compared to many other economically advanced countries, crime rates in Denmark are low.

The Danish society has a great welfare system, which ensures health care, childcare, elderly care, and education for everyone registered in Denmark. These benefits are financed by taxes and you should expect to pay a big part of your salary to the Danish government. A special tax scheme for researchers was implemented in 2011, which entails a tax rate of 26 % in the first five years of working.
