Look no further! Translational Research at Novo Nordisk is seeking a dynamic and talented Scientist to join our Biomarker Discovery and Qualification (BDQ) team. The position As a Scientist in Translational Research, you will get the opportunity to discover and utilize novel biomarkers to de-risk early clinical programs. Some of your main tasks will include:
  • Designing and establishing NGS-based assays to profile transcriptomic, genomic and epigenomic alterations in cellular models relevant for cardiometabolic diseases
  • Implementing and executing high throughput sequencing methods such as DRUG-seq, PLATE-seq or census-seq
  • Analyzing NGS data to identify candidate biomarkers associated with treatment response and disease modulation
  • Collaborating closely with bioinformatics and computational biology teams to integrate multi-omics data and advanced data analysis
  • Validating candidate biomarkers using orthogonal techniques including qPCR, ddPCR and Olink
  • Staying abreast of the latest advancements in NGS technologies and contribute to the development of novel experimental approaches
  • Qualifications You hold a Master’s degree in Genomics, Genetics, or related field with a strong focus on cardiometabolic disease biology and NGS technologies combined with 3 years of relevant experience in pharma, biotech, or academia. Alternatively, you come with a PhD in Life Sciences with substantial NGS experience within metabolic diseases. To thrive and succeed in the role, you must have:
  • A background in metabolic disease biology and hands-on-experience in culturing primary human cells relevant to cardiometabolic diseases
  • Hands-on experience in operating Illumina sequencing platforms and sequencing methods such as DRUG-seq, PLATE-seq and census-seq methods
  • NGS library preparation, automation and data analysis tools (e.g., R, Python, bioconductor)
  • Demonstrated expertise in single cell transcriptomics using platforms such as 10X chromium and molecular biology methods such as qPCR
  • Additionally, it would be advantageous that you also have:
  • Proven expertise in implementing and using , spatial transcriptomics, DNA methylation and the Olink platform
  • Strong background in molecular biology techniques, including nucleic acid extraction, PCR, gene expression analysis and ddPCR
  • NGS experience applied to genomic and epigenomic research
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex NGS data to identify candidate biomarkers
  • As a person, you exhibit a strong translational mindset, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. About The Department At the Biomarker Discovery & Qualification department, we discover and qualify TE, PoM and disease modulation biomarkers. We employ human in vitro / ex vivo systems and in vivo animal models as well as apply omics technologies to generate high-quality biomarker data to guide decision-making in research and early development. Currently, the department consists of 9 scientists and is part of the Translational Research VP area. Other departments in Translational Research include Biomarker Assay Development, Omics Technologies and Translational Imaging. Translational Research is part of Global Translation, an organisational area responsible for the application of translational approaches across all the therapy areas in Novo Nordisk.
